I receive an email almost every day from readers with questions about things seen and talked about on the ABD blog or social media. They vary from “How did you start ABD?” (here’s an interview) to “What’s your favorite lipstick color?” (right now it’s this!) to my personal favorite, “What kind of dog is Lucy?” (she’s a Yorkipoo)!
But the one question we get over and OVER and OOOOOVER again is, “Where do you buy your flowers?”
Well, friends, today is your lucky day! I’m spilling the beans on my go-to for all things floral.
But first a little back story….
I went to school for Interior Design. During my final semester the school put on a gala for the design community. My class was in charge of decor/florals. None of us even knew where to begin, so one of our teachers introduced us to a local wholesale flower market. And that is where my love affair with flowers began! I have been going to this shop for seven years and honestly, I RARELY buy flowers anywhere else. It is THAT magical.
When I was in college it was known as Mattern Wholesale Florist, but it’s now called Wholesale Florida Flowers and Orchids. As a wholesale flower market it used to only open to the trade, meaning you had to be in the flower business to get in and buy. That’s no longer the case and it’s now entirely open it to the public! That’s right friends, you too can buy flowers at wholesale prices without a business license. Didn’t I say this place was magical!?
The owner, Rob, has become a friend of ours. Our weekly flower stop has become one of the highlights of my week. Ryan and Rob talk shop while I spend waaaay too much time trying to pink the perfect peonies! It doesn’t get any better.
And if that wasn’t enough, you can also order flowers straight from their website and have them delivered locally at wholesale prices. Honestly! You can order roses for $19 and have them sent to a friend. It’s kind of unreal. And lastly, if you don’t see exactly what you need in their freezer you can order flowers ahead of time!
So there it is, the Orlando’s best kept secret revealed! New York City has its flower district and Orlando has Florida Flowers and Orchids.
If you live in the Central Florida area you need to drop by. You’ll be happy you did and when you go, make sure and tell them I sent you!
