Breaking Down The Look!
It’s officially Red Carpet season, and there is nothing more I love than watching my favorite stars have their best dressed moments. Whether you are walking the red carpet this season (if so, lucky you!!!) or wanting to take your red carpet look out on the town for your Valentine or Galentine date night, you’ve come to the right place!
I’ve had the opportunity to walk two red carpets, and both of them have been magical and overwhelming! Through the hair and make up prep for these events, I learned a few tips and tricks I’ve started using for extra special date night looks. So, I’d thought I’d share them with you here!
Here’s what you’ll need for the look:
First and foremost, get comfortable! Find your fanciest robe, pour a glass of champagne, and take your time! The getting ready part is half the fun! I like to first dump out all my “tools” before I decide what look I am going for! I’ve done the smokey eye look the past few times I walked the red carpet, so this time I thought it would be fun to do a thick winged liner and BOLD lip!
Once I’ve decided on my look, it’s time to dive in! So, lets! I’ll take you step-by-step….
Getting the Look:
After you’ve applied your primer, foundation, and concealer, use a translucent matte* powder to set your make up. After I have set my base, I go in with a bronzer and blush to make my cheekbones pop! Once my “face” is on, I get to work on my eyes!
Since we are doing a serious winged liner look, I am going to keep my lids fairly neutral by using the Colour Riche Pocket Pallet in Boudoir Charme. I used the lightest color all over my lid, and I extended from my lashes to my brow.
From there, I used the second lightest color to go in my creases to give my lid some depth. Make sure when you are doing this that you blend, blend, blend!
*Pro Tip: Always use a matte powder when there will be flashbulbs! And, add in highlighter where you want to shine.
Once I’ve finished my lids, I go in with the liner*. Now, I’ve said this before and I will say it again… TAKE YOUR TIME! Who cares if it takes you ten minutes to apply eyeliner?! Also, practice makes perfect, so it’s okay to mess up, don’t be discouraged.
*Pro Tip – Start lining your lid from the middle. It’s crazy but it really helps!

Once I have finished my liner, I move onto my brows*. It’s a necessary evil, but I just feel like this is what takes me the longest. I can apply winged eyeliner all day, but brows take me 10 minuets! But, again, practice makes perfect. And of course once they are done, I look like a human! Needless to say, it’s important!
*Pro Tip – I once told a make up artist how I could never get my brows to match perfectly, and she said, ” They are supposed to look like sisters, not twins!” Incredibly helpful.
The last thing I do before applying lipstick is highlight! I used the Lumi palette to highlight the tops of my cheekbones, the bridge of my noes, under my brows, the inner part of my eyes, and right above my lips. This is what will make your skin GLOW on and off camera! Do your self a favor and get one of these palettes… it’s my secret beauty weapon!
Now, the lips! Before I apply a bold lip, I always use some sort of sugar scrub and lip balm to make sure my lips are extra smooth. When your lips are dry, a bold color will only excentuate it, so I always make sure I do this before I apply a red lip*!
And before you walk out that door, make sure you blot your lips on a piece of paper, NEVER toilet paper or tissue! Both of those will leave a “white dust” on your lips!
Once you’ve blotted, it’s time to slip into that red carpet dress!
* Pro Tip- It may be old school to use a lip liner, but lining and filling your lips before you apply lipstick will make your lips last all night!
Now, I’ve got to tell you both of these dresses are from Rent the Runway. I’ve worn Rent the Runway both times I’ve walked the carpet and have been extra pleased with the dresses! I’d of course love to keep them, but it’s nice to know that I can give them back and choose another dress for my next event!
Also, I don’t know about you, but I LOVE getting REALLY dressed up. I feel most like myself in a fancy red carpet dress or pajamas… I’ve really never liked the in between! Either sequins or 10 year old pajamas, take your pick!
The great thing about this beauty look is it easily translates into a date night look! All you need to do is shake out your hair, change dresses, and voila! You are ready for a night out on the town!
It’s so fun to see what the same look with different accessories and hairstyle can really do! I love this flirty second look and could easily twirl the night away in this scalloped dress!
So, whether you are stepping out on the red carpet or heading out on the town with your girlfriends, you can take that hollywood glam home and make it your own!
