I know it can be intimidating to wear pattern on pattern, but I promise it’s easier to style than you’d think! After wearing this outfit to dinner a few weeks ago, it inspired me to share some of my favorite tips for mixing patterns. I promise: once you see a few outfit ideas, you’ll understand what all the talk is about!
How to Mix Pattern On Pattern
Pick a color palette
For me, one of the keys to wearing pattern on pattern, or really any outfit for that matter, is picking a color palette. Choose patterned pieces in either cool or warm tones to ground your outfit and make styling multiple patterns easier!
In the summer months, I love draping a striped t-shirt or sweater around my shoulders when wearing dresses! Not only is it perfect for chilly summer evenings, but it also has an effortless feel! I recently wore this green floral maxi dress out to dinner and added a green striped shirt over my shoulders. To finish off my outfit, I chose neutral accessories and a pair of tan sandals for a simple dinner look.
Choose a mix of large and small prints, so your final look doesn’t feel too busy. I’m a big fan of the grandma-chic cardigan trend, especially those with romantic floral embroidery! So I love pairing an embroidered cardigan sweater with a feminine floral print maxi dress!
Feminine floral dresses
As we head into fall, layering is the way to go, especially in Florida!! I love bringing in pops of color to my outfits even as it cools down! Last October, on my trip to Blue Ridge, I layered a blue and white striped pullover with a patterned quilted jacket for a day of exploring.
PAIR FLORAL PRINTS WITH STRIPES
I recently found this blouse and fell in love with the feminine and easy vibe! I have it in white, but I love this muted lilac floral print too! It’s super lightweight and very flattering! But make sure you size down. I got an XS, and it’s a perfect fit. Pair this floral blouse with a subtle stripe cardigan like this one for a less intimidating pattern on pattern outfit.
