Last week we packed our bags (Dolly included) and headed to one of our favorite places, Montage Palmetto Bluff. Out of all the places Ryan and I have traveled over the last 4 years I would have to rank Palmetto Bluff in our top five favorites. It’s truly one of those places where time stops.
It had been almost two years since our first visit to Palmetto Bluff so when we were brainstorming Spring locations we had a hard time thinking of another place we’d rather visit. The property itself is so incredibly special, so much so that it’s hard to explain. It’s quaint and welcoming, but still dripping with luxury and Southern Charm. It’s almost like when you cross into Palmetto Bluff you enter a completely new and magical world.
As soon as we arrived in our fancy ride, more on that later, ha!, we took in the sights. Our room wasn’t quite ready yet which was actually great because it gave us the chance to lounge in the library, enjoy the bonfire, and take in the hotel.
The Most Pet Friendly Place
To be honest, I was quite nervous to bring Dolly with us. She’s just now 11 weeks old and we had never traveled with her before. We hated the thought of her being scared and miserable and/or disturbing other guests. Then again we hated the idea of leaving her behind. Fortunately, Montage Palmetto Bluff is extremely pet friendly! As soon as we walked through the front door I realized she fit right in. She was a hit with children, adults, and hotel staff alike from the moment we entered the lobby! Also, there we plenty of other sweet pups on the property with their owners which made us feel right at home. Plus, we couldn’t get enough of photographing her in all the fancy spaces… it was just too much fun!
A Country Cottage All to Ourselves
We ended up staying in one of the cottages on the property, which was amazing, and highly recommended! It felt like we had our very own home away from home. When you book, you actually have the option to stay in a cottage or a room at The Inn. We’ve now stayed at in both and I have to be honest with you, the cottages was absolutely wonderful, especially since we brought Dolly! She loved running around on the lawn behind our little home, and let’s be real… so did Ryan!
The cottage came with plenty of space, large closet/dressing area, and a bathroom that was almost the same size as the main room itself. I would imagine that if you have children or pets, the there is no better place to be!
The rooms at the Montage are just so gorgeous and every detail has been attended too. From the gas fireplace to the steam shower, it’s Southern charm at it’s finest. We loved our cottage so much we found ourselves wanting to order room service in lieu of going out – it was just too lovely to leave!
Dinner for Two, Please!
On our way up to Palmetto, we kept talking about the restaurants we wanted to try in the nearby cities during our trip, but we ended up not leaving the property even once. I’m serious when I say that this little town sucks you in and you won’t want to leave!
We always have a meal or two at Buffalos which is a short walk or bike ride into “town”. In the afternoons at different spots around the resort we enjoyed their complimentary hors d’oeuvres like warm oysters and sweet tea. Once it’s dark they open up a s’more station around large brick fire pits. it’s truly magical!
The Carolina Room ended up being our very favorite and if you go to Palmetto Bluff, it’s an absolute must try! Also, they were super sweet and overly accommodating to my annoying dairy allergy, which gives them an extra star in my book!
Our Favorite Activity – Biking!
One of our favorite things to do while at Palmetto Bluff is to take the bikes out for a sunset-spin. When I say the property is beyond gorgeous I mean it. At sunset, it’s even prettier! Also, I was dying to see Dolly in a bike basket and was pleasantly surprised to find out how much she loved it! Sweet little thing could get enough.
There are all kinds of other things you can do there..tennis, canoeing, golf, archery…etc..But we kept things simple and rode the bikes that came with our cottage!
One Stylish Ride
After 4 days of Southern paradise, we were so sad to leave! The only thing that padded our broken hearts was our ride! Like I mentioned at the beginning of this post, we had quite the fancy car this trip and it made our departure a little more appealing!
Lexus loaned us their brand new (not even on the market), fully loaded 2018 LS 500. I thought Ryan was going to have an actual heart attack. When it showed up at our house the day before we left I found him in our driveway pushing all the buttons while listening to music. I asked him what he was doing and he said excitedly “Ash, every seat has a massager! It’s like we will be in Brookstone chairs for our entire trip!!!” He was in love with all 416 horsepower of it! And I have to admit, I’m not a car person, but this one had me rethinking everything!
I can not tell you how sad it was when Lexus picked this beauty back up the day we got home…We realized we had to go back to being regular people who drive old non-fancy, non-massaging-seat cars… ha! But I will say we definitely lived it up while we could!
Sad to Leave!
All in all, it was definitely a trip to remember and we are already daydreaming about how we can get back to Montage Palmetto Bluff in the very near future. If you are looking for the perfect getaway, I promise you that you will absolutely fall in LOVE with Palmetto Bluff, it’s worth every single penny and more!
