The Sweetest Getaway!
Last week we packed up the car and Dolly and drove to Savannah, Georgia for a weekend getaway! For Christmas this past year my parents gave my sister, brother-in-law, Ryan, and I a trip. They gave us a budget and said whatever you want to do, we’ll do! So as soon as Ryan was in the clear to travel we started planning!
It just so happened that we were finally able to line up all six of our schedules for this past weekend which also coincidentally fell over my mine and my mom’s birthdays! So it ended up being one giant celebration weekend. Truthfully, it will go down as one of my favorite family trips of all time. It was just sweet and fun. We didn’t really do too many crazy things, but we did spend a lot of time laughing together, and there’s really nothing better.
Here’s a short roundup of what we did and enjoyed while in Savannah:
Savannah Restaurants, Coffee, & Fun
Morning Runs at Forsyth Park
One of my favorite things Ryan and I did on this trip was going on a 3 mile run each morning. We’d get up, have a cup of coffee and hit the cobblestone streets. It was such a fun way to explore the city and our neighborhood. So many beautiful and quirky sites that I’m not sure we would have noticed otherwise.
This is the first time we’ve done this on a trip, and honestly, it won’t be the last. It was easily our favorite thing about the day!
Big Birthday Weekend
First of all, how cute are my mom and dad?! Serioulsy, the sweetest. I snapped this photo at my mom’s birthday dinner the night we arrived!
My mom and I shared a birthday weekend, her’s was on Thursday and mine was on Sunday. But this year was her year! She turned 60 and we wanted to celebrate her BIG. My sister, dad, and I had such a fun time planning this trip and surprising her along the way. Usually she’s the planner, so it was so much fun plan for her this time and roll out the red carpet! She deserves to be celebrated every day!
One of my Mom’s birthday presents was a family portrait! Getting our family portrait taken every year is my mom’s favorite thing in LIFE. But coordinating all of us is the worst. It’s like herding cats. So this year, we surprised her with a Draper James dress and a plan!
First thing Friday morning we got gussied up and headed out to Forsyth Park and knocked out our 2019 Christmas card in June. She couldn’t have been happier.
All The Food
During this trip we ate at so many great spots, but this avocado toast at The Collins Quarter our last morning might have been my favorite meal.
My family has a lot of food allergies (collectively it’s dairy, gluten, nuts, and soy! It’s overwhelming). But everywhere we ate the restaurants were able to accommodate us which was an actual miracle! Below is a list of where we ate and what meal we had! The rest we cooked at home, which was lovely!
Even though it was a balmy 1,000 degrees outside this weekend we did get the chance to do a little strolling and window shopping downtown. We stopped by all the favorites including The Paris Market and Leopold’s Ice Cream!
It may have been HOT, but regardless, we put in a good 4 miles just browsing! It was such a fun afternoon.
Guys, I went to book heaven. You may remember our Book Club’s instagram featuring E. Shaver Bookseller on Independent Book Store day a few weeks ago. I have had this bookshop on my must see list for years, and I finally made it. Oh my gosh, you have to go! It’s the cutest and sweetest bookshop I’ve ever seen. If you are book obsessed like me, put it on your list!
My birthday was Sunday morning, the day we planed to go back home, so we decided to move my birthday to Saturday instead! It ended up being the sweetest day full of all my favorite people and all my favorite things. We strolled around town, shopped, ate, and sipped fancy cocktails in the rain. Ryan even surprised me at lunch with the most gorgeous bouquet of pink roses. and my sister surprised me with our VRBO filled with pink balloons!
It couldn’t have been a sweeter birthday.
