The Two Best Foundations
(If I had to pick)
I’ve been playing around with my makeup routine lately. I tend to get in a rut with the basics (i.e. foundation) and stop testing out new products, which is good and bad. On one hand, if it works, then it works! On the other hand, there might be something better out there… and in my case there definitely was.
I’ve been using the same foundation for the past 3 years without even thinking about it. The product was amazing and it was just easy too push the “re-order” button any time I needed more. But a few months ago I thought it might be time to step out of my comfort zone and try a new foundation, and I’m SO glad I did.
The Compliment Test
I’d been hearing nothing but amazing things about Giorgio Armani’s Luminous silk Foundation and finally bit the bullet and ordered it. This foundation is about $20 more expensive than my normal one, so it felt like a serious splurge. And, honestly, I kind of felt guilty about it until I put it on.
The very first day I wore this foundation Ryan and I were out to dinner and, out of the blue, he said “Did you do your makeup differently? I really like it.” Not even kidding. He’s not one to comment on my skin, he’s more often saying “you look really great tonight, etc, etc…” but the direct skin comment could only mean one thing, it was worth the extra $20.
I wanted to know more so I did a bit more fishing with “what do you like about it?” and “tell me more!” 😉 and he just kept saying that it looked more natural, which I thought was a WIN. Next I decided to test it out on the big guns, my mom and sister.
We have a joke in our family that if you don’t want the truth, don’t ask. So I knew my harshest critics would let me know if this foundation really and truly is the holy grail… Then, before I could ask, they both made a comment about how great my skin looked. Right then and there I vowed my loyalty to Giorgio. If my mom and sister liked it then it had to be good.
Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
My favorite thing about this foundation is that it’s “buildable”. It’s super smooth, incredibly light, and definitely illuminating. The texture isn’t heavy in the least and the more I wear it, the more I love it. I cannot recommend this foundation enough.
P.S. I found this video on how to apply GA’s foundation so helpful!
Now, if you aren’t into foundation (I know so many people aren’t), my go-to for a bit of glow and coverage is Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer. I’ve been using this product for years and years and still think it’s the best of it’s kind.
I wear this foundation on days where I don’t have any shoots or am just running errands and don’t need the all-day staying power a true foundation brings! And actually, I’m wearing it today! Such a great product.
Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer
This product is super sheer with a tiny bit of color, so think of it as your daily moisturizer with a drop of foundation in it. It’s perfect to even out your skin tones without looking completely done-up. You will be able to see your freckles (which I like)! This product also has a great “glow” to it.
I hope this post is helpful for you if you are looking for a new skin routine for the New Year, or if you’ve been on the fence like I was about splurging on a new product! Either way, you can’t go wrong!
