Apple gingerbread cake with full recipe

Feeling Festive!

We had such a festive weekend! On Friday night we made homemade pizza and then topped it off with a walk around our neighborhood to see the Christmas lights! I even made us homemade hot cocoa for the adventure.

And on Saturday we had friends over for a fancy Nutcracker themed dinner, which was such a blast. For the past six years Ryan and I have had a standing double date for The Nutcracker ballet with friends Rob and Kailey. Since this year we weren’t going to be able to make the actual ballet happen we decided to do a themed dinner! It was so much fun and we all decided that our seventh year might have even been our best.

Sunday we spent the day getting our life together, ha! At home church, lots of cooking, laundry, and FINALLY cleaning out the garage.

My only complaint about the weekend is that it most definitely wasn’t long enough.

5 Things I'm Loving

Apple Gingerbread Spice Cake

I made this Minimalist Baker recipe for our dinner on Saturday night, and OH MY GOSH. This is my new holiday cake. I’m only making this from now on. Pumpkin pie move over, there’s a new dessert in town.

Electric Tea Kettle

Ryan mentioned over the weekend that he *may* want an electric tea kettle for Christmas, so I started to do a little digging. I know nothing about electric tea kettles, but this one looks lovely! We actually have thermal coffee mugs from Fellow and we love them. But tell me what you know about tea kettles….

The Prettiest Palette

I received this palette in a PR mailer last month and have pretty much being wearing it on repeat! I’m here for the sparkles. It’s SUCH a pretty palette and would make a fabulous stocking stuffer. Plus it’s on sale for under $30! Which honestly is a steal, I love this thing.

Festive and Comfy

I’m very into this swingy red dress, how fun and festive is this?! Would be so cute with a pair of ballet flats, your favorite heels, or let’s be real, slippers! This might be the perfect holiday dress for the season.

I love your idea of a Nutcracker themed dinner, but it would be great if you could also support a ballet company by purchasing a ticket to a virtual performance! Ballet companies all across the countries have had to cancel their Nutcracker performances, which are often the biggest stream of revenue that they rely on for the entire year. New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and Pacific Northwest Ballet are a few companies who are offering a virtual experience this year.

Thank you, what a GREAT idea!!

SUCH a great idea! We are doing the SF Ballet with our girls, since that’s our local company, but are such Nutcracker nuts that I might also geek out and buy NYCB or ABT tickets, just to see something I normally wouldn’t have the chance to see! I love the idea of combining with a themed dinner; World Market has the sweetest Nutcracker napkin rings and now you’ve given me an excuse 🙂

Mindy, this makes me so happy! I actually work at SF Ballet 🙂 I hope your girls enjoy their virtual experience!

That cake looks so amazing! I may just have to try and make a gluten free version of it! Happy holidays, Ashley 🙂

Your cake looks amazing! I will definitely be baking that. Love love love that red dress! Even though we’re not entertaining this year or going anywhere (we’re on lockdown again and until Jan 4th) I would wear it at home on Christmas. Such a pretty festive red and the sleeves are beautiful.

Honestly, it’s the perfect red dress!
