Make a Statement
I’m always on the hunt to find pieces that feel like me, but are unique and different, you know?! I can get into a rut of wearing the same styles over and over, which isn’t a bad thing… but it’s definitely fun to mix it up! I’d been eyeing kaftans a lot lately and really wanted to find a way to make one work for my style. I hand’t really found anything I just had to had-to-have until I stumbled across this embroidered one on Mango.
As soon as I saw it I thought, YES, this is exactly what I was going for. Simple, chic, tailored, and special. I mentioned it last week, but it’s worth mentioning again, Mango has SO MANY great finds, and it’s always the first place I look when I’m searching for something special!
I paired this almost exactly how the model was styled online, because when in doubt, do what the processionals do, ha! Also, I really loved the whole look and I’m a sucker for a palazzo pant! Although, I will tell you I did some alterations.
The pants were/are $60, which I thought was a steal, especially for a pair that looked super expensive! And knowing Mango’s quality, I knew I’d be really happy with them. The only thing is, when they arrived I couldn’t STAND the black button. It was driving me nuts. It attracted way too much attention to – the button – and not the overall look. So my tailor swapped out the button for a more neutral color and I seriously couldn’t have been happier.
Don’t forget to think outside the box with your clothes! Especially when something is fairly inexpensive. There is room for “changes” at the tailor.
Don’t forget to think outside the box with your clothes! Especially when something is fairly inexpensive. There is room for “changes” at the tailor. Also, knowing I was going to be speaking in this outfit in front of 300 women at The Southern C, I wanted to feel really confident. And, I did!
So the moral of the story, try a new style you’ve been admiring! And get creative with altering special items you love to make them just right.

JUST A FEW SIZING NOTES HERE…
Kaftan – Okay, wow, I love this piece. It’s such a statement. I ordered a size 4 and it was great, lots of room! Could have totally gone down a size, but honestly I loved the way it fit. Such a fun “wow” piece for your closet!
Trousers – I ordered a size up in these pants, and they ended up being a bit big! I had my tailor take them in and also take the hem up a bit as well. I’m 5’8.5″ tall, wearing a 3.5″ heel and they were still a touch too long! I also, because I’m NUTS, I had my tailor swap out the black buttons for neutral ones.
Tank Top – This tank has been a game changer for me. I have it now in nude and white. It’s fitted, stretchy, and great quality… perfect to wear under an outfit like this!
