Okay today is a big deal. I’ve been a huge fan of Jane’s book, Nine Women, One Dress, since its release in 2016. I’ve even read it multiple times, so I am thrilled to have her on the blog! If you haven’t had a chance to finish July’s Book Club selection, don’t worry, we aren’t spilling any details that will spoil your read. Feel free to keep scrolling without anxiety!
Also, after a few lightning round questions we got down to the good stuff like… will Jane be writing a second book?! Keep reading for more! 😉
Lightning Round Q&A:
What are you reading right now?:
JANE: Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keane
What was your last Amazon purchase?
JANE: Squishy wine glasses for the beach.
What’s your Starbucks order?
JANE: I’m not a Starbucks girl— an Iced Green Tea from the coffee shop on my corner.
What is your guilty pleasure?
JANE: Ice cream & old rom-coms.
Who is your favorite celebrity or fictional character?
JANE: Scout Finch
What is your current online obsession (website, Instagram account, etc.)
JANE: The women’s and mom groups on Facebook- because they are addictive and the subject of my next book!
What is next in your Netflix queue?
JANE: Schitt’s Creek, Big Little Lies, Shtisel
Okay, Let’s Chat “Nine Women, One Dress”
JANE: It’s hard to pick just one, but if I had to I would choose a Fendi gown that I bought in Vegas about ten years ago with my husband’s blackjack winnings.
One of our favorite things about the book is how expertly all 9 stories are woven together. How did you come up with the ideas of all the different stories and how they would connect?
JANE: A woman told me the story of a dress returned to Bloomingdales covered in formaldehyde. I thought—there’s my ending, and just worked my way backwards from there. I have a background in the garment center and the story of Max and Dorothy Hammer is closely related to the story of my favorite Great Uncle and Aunt. The rest of the tales were purely concocted in my head. As far as the connections, I just thought of every scenario I could and weaved them together.
Which of the 9 storylines is your favorite?
JANE: If I had to choose one, I would pick Arthur and Felicia. I’m a big fan of second chances.
We know you run a gifting company, IT’S ALL GRAVY… Any plans for another book anytime soon?
JANE: I’m thrilled to say that my next book, The Hudson Valley Ladies Bulletin Board, is due out next June from Berkeley.
