It’s here! Cocktail dress season has finally arrived and I’m giddy about it. There is little I love more in life than dressing up. We often joke around the house that I have just two distinct looks “dressy” and “pajamas”, both looks I adore equally. But I honestly feel my most comfortable in a cocktail dress and heels, which is one of the MANY reasons why I love this time of year.
Now don’t get me wrong, holiday dressing is F-U-N, but it can also be fairly stressful. Especially when you have 3 parties in one week and you were hoping not to wear the same dress to all of them, which is where I think strategic planning can come in handy. I’m with you, it’s 100% not realistic to buy an outfit for every single event, but then again it’s not a super confidence booster to wear the same thing to every event.
So there are a few things that I like to do when shopping for holiday…
1. Remember that this season is only two months long!
Seriously! It’s hard to not get completely wrapped up in the holidays and forget that there are 10 other months that you might want to wear a dress as well. So play the long game! Not every dress you buy has to be dripping in candy canes. Think textures and layers. This velvet dress I’m wearing will be perfect to New Year’s Eve Parties and Valentine’s Day… not to mention the occasional girl’s holiday night out!
2. Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize
When shopping for the season as a whole, think ‘capsule wardrobe.’ Search for a few dresses and accessories that you can mix and match! This way you can stretch out your looks all season long. I feel like the accessories make the outfit anyways, so never be afraid to get bold there! I picked up these pearl drop earrings and tote that I plan on using all season long… the options are endless here!
3. Mix and Match Find dresses that are easily build-able.
Can you swap out the earrings for a festive pair of sparklers?! Or switch out the nude shoes for a pair of red ones? Versatility goes a long way.
4. Hair & Make-Up When in doubt, change it up!
A bold red lip or smoky eye can completely transform a look. Same with your hair… try an up-do one night and the next shake out those curls!
5. Shop Somewhere New!
And lastly, try somewhere new! This year I was re-introduced to Rue La La and fell back in love with all that they have to offer. So many dresses that have been on my wish list for months now for up to 70% off the original price! It’s free and easy to be a Rue La La member, plus such a fun way to dress as fancy as you want without breaking that holiday bank! I hope this post will make this year’s cocktail party season a breeze! And as a cherry on top I even curated a boutique on Rue La La with some of my favorites for this season. Perfect pieces to mix and match along with accessories to really make them pop! Happy Shopping, friends!
