    Okay friends, let’s discuss….

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?

Gah, this is such a hard one but I think: Joe Alwyn as Nick (because, duh) and Emma Stone as Bexs. But I don’t know… I just really like Emma, so clearly I’m partial.

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

I thought it was totally realistic! Royals can’t move without being picked apart. Honestly, it seems like a really hard but also very glamorous job!

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?

Freddy! I think his character is hilarious but also had depth. It would be fun to see a side by side narrative!

    Let’s talk The Royal We!

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?
Ok, this is so funny because I saw that Ashley picked Emma Stone to play Bex and I swear we didn’t discuss this but this has been my actor pick for her all along too! I think Emma is beautiful and glamorous to be part of a royal family but is also down to earth enough to nail that Bex eye roll.

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
I think the book is probably pretty realistic in terms of the scrutiny royals are under. Just like anything else, there’s always more going on behind the scenes than we realize. And while royalty certainly seems fun at times, I think the deluge of opinions and questions and criticisms could be very overwhelming.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?
I would love to read the book from Nick’s perspective, I think there would be a lot of insight in to what being royal is really like from someone who has been in the trenches his whole life.

I first read this book a few years ago on an international flight and it was the perfect thing to pass the time, but then I reread it again 1) for book club of course and 2) because I’m about to go to London and it’s kind of the perfect mood for that 🙂

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?
I’ve thought about this a lot and haven’t been able to really nail down my opinions. I keep coming back to Lily Collins for Bex but I think Emma Stone would be great too. I never thought of Joe Alwyn until you mentioned him, Ashley so I’m going with you on that as I would literally watch him in anything. So dreamy. Whenever I read Lacey, I thought of someone like Katrina Bowden or Brittany Snow.

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
I would say the circus around their relationship with regards to the media seemed realistic, for sure. But I definitely think there were parts that were a little over the top, primarily surrounding the family’s reactions to Bex. But the paparazzi following their every move and constantly speculating? Definitely seems about right.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?
I think Freddie’s perspective would be timely since Harry and Meghan are so much in the spotlight now and perhaps the upcoming sequel will be Freddie’s story! I also think maybe Lacey could be an interesting perspective.

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?
OMG I kept thinking this needs to be a movie. This may sound crazy but I could totally see Anna Kendrick playing Bex. Her personality is what got me thinking her. Totally on the spot for this question. Need to think over night.

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
I do see the circus being realistic. I can see how the media really bothers people and tries to stir up trouble.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?
I think Clive’s perspective woul be interesting because he seemed so nonchalant but them the ending

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?
I can’t think of a good actor to play Nick, but I think Lucy Hale could be a good Bex!

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

Totally realistic! I cannot imagine what it would be like to be a standard American and be thrown into high society like that! It must be so much pressure. Royals can’t even go to the grocery store without being photographed and their carts being analyzed!

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?

Obviously, I think Nick’s side would be interesting. Royals aren’t really allowed to speak out on their private lives and thoughts, so no one really knows what it is like!

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?

I think Anna Kendrick would be a perfect fit, she’s spunky. I totally agree with Stacey! I could see Nick being played by Cole Sprouse but Joe Alwyn would be a great fit too! Let’s be honest I don’t really care who plays who I just want a movie people!

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
Yes, it seems completely realistic and totally overwhelming and suffocating. Whenever I daydream about being a princess (lol) it does not include people following me everywhere with armed security and tabloids picking apart my every move!

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read? I would want to read Lacey’s perspective and I‘d love to know more about her & Freddie’s relationship.

I got a total Harry and Meghan vibe the whole time! With Nick being controlled and watched, Bex being American there were so many parallels. Also, parallels between the circus that is their life’s but HELLO Meghan and Harry started their own insta Bex and Nick can bend the rules too!!

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?

Although I cannot stand her Anna Kendrick reminds me of someone who could play Bex. She has the goofy side that’s portaryed in the beginning and a serious side that can be changed into the Royal Rebecca. As for Nick, I would choose WIlliam Moseley. He was cast in the Royals on E! and i couldn’t love him more as a price!

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

Yes and no. I think the public scrutiny and the wishes for the royal family to preserve their image is accurate. No one wants what’s inside the palace to get out or ruin their reputation and I have to see that as fair. Do I think that the paparazzi would stalk her and her sister and not any of Nicks other ex’s? I’m going to say no. We never hear about what Prince William or Harry’s exs are wearing – only except that they showed up to the wedding. Doesn’t that sound familiar….

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?
I wish I could have read it from Nick, Freddie and Lacey’s. I wish this book was written where each character got a chapter in accordance to what was going on in the book. I do think it would be interesting to also see Clive’s perspective. Was his column really published in time for the wedding? did he truly like Bex or was this a set up to get back at Nick? Part of that was answered in the book but I just feel the need to know more!

Just going to skip to question 3:
I think it’d be interesting to hear from Clive’s perspective. He essentially gets set up as the “bad guy” at the end, and what he did is pretty despicable but I’d like to dive into his motivations a little bit more. Was this destined to happen from the beginning, or did he turn to the “dark side” when he got hurt by Bex?

On a personal note, I started this book while on vacation in South America. I blame the ending for keeping me awake on the redeye flight home (ok well really it was the terrible economy seats that no one can sleep in but at least I was entertained)!

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?

For some reason, I kept picturing Justin Timberlake as Nick as I read the story, so I’m going to go with him. Something about Nick’s charm and wit made me think of Justin Timberlake’s character in the movie Friends with Benefits. For Bex, I would go with Nina Dobrev from the Vampire Diaries or Sophie Turner (with brown hair). For Clive, I would definitely go with the actor who played Chuck on Gossip Girl. I got total Chuck vibes from Clive the entire book, even when we didn’t know he was going to turn on his friends.

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

Sorta of. I don’t think any of us will ever actually know what goes on behind closed doors, but the writing certainly made me feel like I was getting some insider information. Who doesn’t love a peak behind the velvet curtain? I do think that the social media and general media scrutiny that Kate Middleton and Meaghan Markle get over what clothes they wear or if they don’t smile is absolutely ridiculous, and I could definitely see some parallels from Kate’s early relationship with Prince William throughout the story.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?

Definitely Freddy! There is something about unrequited love that just makes for such a great book.

    April 3, 2019 / 10:24 am

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version?

I think Zoey Deutch or maybe even Alicia Vikander could play Bex. Sweet and charming, can be funny but also become refined. For Nick, I’m thinking Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas, or Hugh Dancy even! I also like how others are “casting” for Lacey, I can see Diana Agron or Malin Akerman engaging that role.

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

I think this is pretty realistic, and I was overwhelmed for Bex most of the time. To be honest, this is why I completely didn’t love this book. I mistakenly thought it was going to be a cute quick read that mirrored the Julia Stiles Prince and Me Movie… the reality and drama of it all made it so difficult for me to enjoy lightheartedly without getting so down on Bex’s roller coaster situation. (I wanted to love this book, I just didn’t! I’m sorry!)

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?

My book has the bonus chapter from Freddie’s perspective and I really liked that although it didn’t make the ending happier! I think that if the book had perspectives of Nick, Bex, Freddie, and Lacey for each of the sections, we’d get a better understanding of EVERYTHING rather than just seeing Bex’s struggles without getting in Nick or Lacey’s mind at all really.

    Okay friends, let’s discuss….

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?

Emma Stone as Bex. Not sure about Nick. Taron Egerton as Freddy!

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

I thought most of it could be pretty realistic. I can imagine it would be challenging to maintain a private life when so much of their lives are public and in the spotlight.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?

Freddy! He’s such an interesting character!

  13. April 3, 2019 / 11:52 am

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?
Uuugh, I struggled with this one so hard! I feel like Bex needs someone like Anna Kendrick, who can do the comedy and the drama (Brittney Snow would be interesting), but I have no freaking idea who would play Nick. Is there a British version of Chris Evans? We need a younger version of Colin Firth mixed with Hugh Grant (minus the smarminess) and with a dash of Paul Bettany. And I have to know, did anyone else picture Eddie Redmayne as Freddie? And I want

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
100%. Just look at what the Duchess of Sussex has been put through (let alone what the Duchess of Cambridge went through!). And I think we as Americans also don’t often see HOW FREAKING AWFUL the UK tabloids are. They’re absolute slime.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?
I loved the extra chapter I had from Freddie’s perspective, but I’m dying to read the whole story from Nick’s. I think it would be a fascinating insight into royal life, growing up with a mentally ill parent, and I want ALL the Nick and Freddie scenes.

Fun fact- we almost named my son Freddie because of this book. Such a great book choice! I can’t wait to see the interview!

I’m listening to the audio version. I was starting to get into the book. There was a F-bomb dropped which was disheartening. I personally don’t like that kind of language. I find it offensive plus I’m a Christian-it just rubbed me the wrong way. I’ll finish listening to it since I downloaded it. It’s not bad and it can be interesting. We’ll see how it goes I’m still in the beginning portion. I can’t wait to read the interview.

  15. April 3, 2019 / 7:10 pm

    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?

+Ok so I read this with 100% William Mosley in my head as Nick. He has already played a royal and is so…adapted at this kind of role that has duty vs. identity.

+For Bex I was thinking Emma Roberts or even Blake Lively. Or someone more obscure like Abigail Spencer or Mae Whitman. I really like Emma Roberts for it.

(Wouldn’t Lily Collins be ideal for Cilla and Lily James for Lady Bea?)

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?

+I studied (minored) in European History with a focus on the UK so I am very familiar with the Royals. I actually was pleasantly surprised by the way this book was emphasized the changes and challenges each person undertakes as part of a modern monarchy. It’s not a fairytale like we imagined and I really liked the moment where Nick asks her to keep her citizenship. In real life, Prince William has been very aware of the sacrifices that Kate had to give to marry him. He famously fought for a personal secretary for her (which was the first for someone marrying into the family…Diāna did not have one), because he was aware of the loneliness his mother had experienced. William understands his duties and doesn’t neglect them. But he fights for innovation to allow for the Royals to be people as well. I felt like the author showed Nick doing this often. The empathy given to Bex from cold Lady Bea and from unexpected characters added a truthful feeling to the finale. I would have loved to have been there for the bestowing of the tiara to Bex or to the real bride, Kate.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?

+I want to hear the story from Lacey’s side. Distrusting the narrative is one of my favorite ways to dismantle a storyline.

    What a good read!

UGH, I just love this book so much!
    1. Who would you cast in the movie version of The Royal We?
Emma Watson, naturally! I just think she would be perfect maybe paired with Ansel Elgort?! I’m gonna need the movie ASAP!
    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
Definitely seems realistic to me, I can’t imagine all of that craziness as you’re trying to build a life with someone! It gives you more understanding of what they go through on a day to day basis. I respect Kate & Meghan even more after reading.
    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read? Lacey! As a twin myself I think it would be so interesting to hear from her side of the story!

    2. Do you think the circus surrounding Nick and Bex’s relationship seems realistic? Did this book make you think differently about royal life?
Yes it totally seemed realistic from what I’ve seen/read of the royals and the media. I’m an avid royal watcher and enjoyed the authors’ take on all the behind the scenes details we never see.

    3. Obviously this is told from Bex’s perspective—what other characters perspective would you want to read?
I would love to read Nick’s point of view!
