This week’s Desk Obsessed features the lovely and talented Sarah from Chevrons & Stripes, one of my favorite blogs! Sarah is uber talented, not only does she write a fabulous blog but she is also a stylist and a jeweler… What a fun life, huh! Okay so we’ve got all the dish on Sarah’s desk–we’ve left nothing out, from pens to snacks to music! Hope you enjoy!
It depends on the day but it’s definitely more inspiring to sit down at my desk when everything is in it’s right place. I try to keep the mess to defined piles rather than all over the place and once a week I go through all the tear sheets, papers, sticky notes, etc. that I’ve accumulated and clean house – it’s pretty satisfying!
What’s your go to pen or pencil? (We know you have a favorite!)
These Caran D’Ache pens are the perfect balance between form and function – a simple ballpoint with a lot of style!
I also hope to acquire a set of these personalized pencils soon, they’re completely adorable.
What are you listening to at your desk these days? If you prefer to work in silence, is there a song or album that’s gets your juices flowing when you’re stuck in a rut?
I flucuate between classics like Van Morrison and Joni Mitchell and newbies like The Civil Wars, The Head and The Heart, and Ray Lamontagne. If I really need a pick me up I’ll crank up some Jay-Z or Chiddy Bang but those are pretty rare mid-day tunes. I’m also listening to the Midnight In Paris soundtrack on repeat right now. I definitely have eclectic taste in music!
Are there snacks or treats within arms reach of your desk? What are they?
I try to stick to fruit – an apple or banana with peanut butter – but if I’m really going for it, avocado on toast is my weakness. Squeeze a little lemon juice and sprinkle some salt and red pepper flakes on top and you’re good to go.
What 3 Things on your desk keep you on track and inspired?
I keep a picture of my closest girlfriends and I on my desk. It can get a little lonely living in a new city and it’s nice to glance over and be reminded that they’re just a phone call (and short flight) away. I also keep a stack of design books at hand. A few current faves include Avedon Fashion, Gypset Style, and of course the Domino book of decorating. Lastly, I couldn’t do without my little pinboard! I’m constantly rotating it’s contents but right now it’s tacked with a Rifle Paper Co. card, old Art Basel tix, a fabric flower, my favorite Richard Phillips painting, and some glittery stickers a friend brought me back from Japan.
