The Loveliest Place: 86 Cannon
This past week was a bit of a whirlwind dream! We were in three states in five days, two store openings, countless meetings, two family dinners, and one magical stay at 86 Cannon in Charleston, SC. As you know, Ryan and I love to travel, but our favorite thing by far is finding a cozy place to stay. We love exploring new cities, but there is nothing more wonderful than having a place to come back to at night where you actually feel at home. After traveling steadily over the past two years, we have found boutique hotels are one of our favorite places to stay. We love the attention to detail, the cozy quality, and the people we meet! And, 86 Cannon did not let us down in the least.
A few months ago, I was searching for a new place to stay while we were going to be in Charleston and googled “Boutique Charleston Hotel”, and this little gem popped up! I had never heard of 86 Cannon, but it looked quite magical from the photos. We booked it right away! Since then, I have been seeing 86 Cannon pop up EVERYWHERE and rightfully so, it’s unreal.
It took a whole of 30 seconds for us to fall in love with this property and the owners (and pups!). Not only is 86 Cannon wonderful, but the owners of the inn are incredible. We feel like we left Charleston with new best friends and a home away from home. Honestly, I cannot WAIT to go back.
So, without further ado, here is a little inside look at 86 Cannon…
This may have been the highlight of our trip. As soon as we pulled through the gates, Gus and Sully came running out of their doggy door to great us. It was hands down the cutest thing I’d ever seen. Gus and Sully became our fast friends and followed us around the entire trip, nothing could have made me happier.
The Personal Tour:
Marion (one of the owners) greeted us with champagne at the cottage and took us around for a tour of the property. We explored the beautiful open porches, the salon, the library, and the kitchen… all of which Pinterest dreams are made of. If you love rich patterns and textures, you will love 86 Cannon’s charming Southern architecture. It will pull you right in…it was downright heavenly!
Getting the Keys:
Once our tour was over, Marion handed us the keys to our suite and told us wine and cheese on the porch started at 5 pm! It was music to our road trip ears.
We settled into our room, which by the way was even more beautiful in real life. We unpacked and changed for cocktails. We’d only been there 20 minutes, and we were already plotting how we could move in.
In the mirror’s reflection, you can spy an original brick fireplace which gave the gorgeous bathroom incredible character and rustic charm.
The walls of each room showed off the best of Southern texture and pattern play.
The Little Things:
Every night, we’d home back to two little chocolate truffles hanging on our door. I’ll take truffles on my door any day of the week – please and thank you!
The next morning, we woke up in desperate need of coffee. Ryan has a few brothers who live in town, so we had stayed up waaaay too late the night before playing cards and laughing until there were real tears. The trip was shaping up to be one of our best trips yet!
One of our favorite things about 86 Cannon is their kitchen. A light breakfast is served each morning upstairs from 7-10 am. Locally roasted coffee, quiche, homemade granola, and of course pastries. It was so nice to wake up and have a place to grab a cup of good coffee and a bite to eat. The little kitchen became our studio for the 3 days we were in town. We honestly moved in! Each morning, we would bring our laptops and spend a few hours working before heading out for the day. I can’t tell you how wonderful it was to have a place to do that.
*Also, as a side note… can my kitchen look like this please?
The Happiest of Hours:
Promptly at 5:00 p.m, wine and cheese was served on their porch, and it was heaven. The weather was magical the entire time we were there and having a spot to debrief about the day and make plans for the night was wonderful. We so enjoyed wine and cheese hour each night.
Never Wanting to Leave:
After three days at 86 Cannon, it had really started to feel like home. Gus and Sully became our sidekicks, and Marion was quickly becoming our new best friend! Honestly, if we could have stayed a whole week we would have. Next time you head to Charleston, make sure you at least stop by and take a peek at 86 Cannon, if only to see a real live Pinterest board… but if I were you, I’d book my stay ASAP! Ryan and I are already planning our next trip to 86 Cannon!
P.S. Here are a few places we ate while in Charleston this trip:
Cannon Green * (walking distance from 86 Cannon)
We went to Cannon Green on Friday night for cocktails and appetizers before a party and OMG. I have been to Cannon Green before, but what I ordered this time was out of this world. You must go and you must get the Flying Squirrel cocktail. It’s amazing.
Hominy Grill * (walking distance from 86 Cannon)
We’ve eaten both breakfast and lunch here on different trips. I love lunch because they serve boiled peanuts.
As you know, we are at The Skinny Dip in Charleston, but we also did the coffee mugs and branding for the coffee shop on the second floor. You need to go because not only is it super adorable, but they also have Froze. So there is that.
Sugar Bake Shop * (walking distance from 86 Cannon)
Sugar Bake Shop is a block away from 86 Cannon which was both wonderful and dangerous. We got a little crazy and picked up four cupcakes, but the lemon one was by far my fave!
Xiao Bao Biscuit * (walking distance from 86 Cannon)
We went to Xiao Bao for a late night dinner after Skinny Dip’s Opening party on Friday night, and it was amazing. If you go you, MUST get the cabbage pancake.
On Thursday night, we had made dinner reservations at our favorite place to eat in Charleston, Zero George. We’d been there the last time we were in town, and we always try and schedule in a date night while traveling. In Charleston, Zero George is our favorite. It’s the epitome of quiet elegance, and the food is out of this world. It’s a must go if you are looking to splurge!
Five Loaves Cafe * (walking distance from 86 Cannon)
Great little place for sandwiches, soup, and smoothies! They also have great Gluten Free options.
The temperatures dipped on Friday night and after doing a little walking downtown we decided hot cocoa was incredibly necessary. So we stopped into Carmella’s for a little homemade hot cocoa!
