Three Favorite Summer Cocktails!

We are back with part three of our Summer Backyard Series, and I am so excited I can’t stand it. Ryan has been showing off his handy work in the last two posts that you can see here and here, but now it’s my turn. There is little I love more in life than entertaining. I love having laughter and clinking glasses fill up my home. Any chance we get to have people over, we do, and now that I have this beautiful backyard space it’s easier now than ever!

This whole backyard makeover has been a total labor of love. Ryan did everything himself, so when it came down to picking furniture, I got nervous. I wanted to make sure to do the whole makeover justice. We landed on this really GORGEOUS teak set from Joss and Main, and I am SO glad this was the one we went with. Teak is a must in Florida because of it’s durability against the elements!

We also found a few pillows and an umbrella from Pottery Barn that totally pulled the entire look together! Ryan loves the space as much as I do, and we now spend most mornings sipping our coffee and most evening sipping our wine right here. It’s magical.

Once this portion of the outdoor space was complete, I think I made plans to have friends and family over every single night for, like, five nights in a row. I couldn’t get enough! Plus, I love cocktail hour because it’s so much less prep than dinner but usually double the fun! ha!

After night five, we decided we had a few go-to cocktails/mocktails that really worked for our little backyard get-togethers. So, I thought I’d share them with you here! Quite a few of my girlfriends are pregnant or nursing, so having a great mocktail recipe is a must, plus I love having both a wine and liqueur option for everyone else!

A few of our favorite Summer Entertaining Cocktail/Mocktail recipes:

Lavender Lemonade

This recipe is yummy! Also, I loving using lavender in recipes since I have a tiny lavender plant in my garden, and it makes me feel like Martha Stewart. This recipe is obviously alcohol free, but can be easily made into a cocktail if you add a splash of vodka!

INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 cup raw honey
  • 5 cups water
  •  1/4 cup fresh lavender blossoms, crushed
  • 1 cup fresh-squeezed strained lemon juice
  • Lavender for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Bring 2 1/2 cups water to boil in a medium pan
  2. Remove from heat and add honey, stirring to dissolve.
  3. Add the lavender to the honey water, cover, and let steep at least 20 minutes or up to several hours.
  4. Strain mixture/discard lavender
  5. Pour infusion into a glass pitcher
  6. Add lemon juice and approximately another 2 1/2 cups of cold water, to taste. Stir well.
  7. Pour over ice and garnish with lavender sprigs.

Classic Rosé

Well, there’s no recipe for this one! But, I heard Whispering Angle is on sale at Costco at the moment… so there’s at least that.

Berry Mojito

This cocktail is so good. We’ve also made this without the rum and had it in the afternoons at lunch, sometimes you just need to feel fancy when you’re eating a sandwich at your desk… you know?!

INGREDIENTS

  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Blueberries
  • 1.5 oz of Rum (omit for a mocktail!)
  •  5 oz of Acai Pome Blue Juice
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • Club Soda

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Muddle the mint and blueberries together in a cocktail shaker
  2. Add all ingredients except club soda and shake with ice
  3. Pour over ice with a splash of club soda and garnish with mint and berries.

I pinky promise both of these summer cocktail recipes are winners, and you can’t go wrong with rosé. Everyone loves rosé! Also, I try not to over think the “snacks” portion of the evening either and just pull out what I have from the fridge. It usually looks something like hummus, chips, veggies, fruit, and cheese. You can’t go wrong with any of those things. Sometimes we even just do chips and salsa, and call it a day!

Now, go cut up some veggies and fruit, open a bottle of wine, shake up a cocktail or two, and call your neighbors over for a Patio Party! Because even if it’s hot, everyone loves an excuse to throw on a fancy dress and sip cocktails! Trust me.
