OUR BOOK OF THE MONTH AUTHOR!
We are back with another incredible author interview with the woman behind this month’s Ashley Brooke Book Club selection, This Time Next Year! A huge thank you to Sophie for taking time out of her busy schedule to answer our questions!
Have no fear, if you haven’t finished the book or scooped up a copy yet we made sure there are no spoilers in this one. So feel free to read without anxiety, but seriously, you’ve got to pick this one up ASAP! 😉
So without further ado…
LIGHTNING ROUND Q&A:
WHAT ARE YOU READING RIGHT NOW?
SOPHIE: I am currently reading a proof of a book due to be released this year called The Mismatch by Sara Jafari, and I am listening on audiobook to The Authenticity Project by Clare Pooley which is a recent NYT bestseller.
WHAT WAS YOUR LAST AMAZON PURCHASE?
SOPHIE: A battery powered brio train for my three year old (she loves trains!), oh and another copy of my own book to gift to someone.
WHAT’S YOUR STARBUCKS ORDER?
SOPHIE: There are no Starbucks on the island of Jersey where I live, which I am very SAD about, as I love Starbucks, but my standard order when on the mainland would be a caramel macchiato. YUM.
WHAT IS YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?
SOPHIE: Coffee, chocolate and battenberg cake. Sugar fiend I’m afraid.
WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CELEBRITY OR FICTIONAL CHARACTER?
SOPHIE: Currently obsessed with Dan Levy and everything Schitt’s Creek related
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT ONLINE OBSESSION (WEBSITE, INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT, ETC.)
SOPHIE: I am in the middle of a Schitt’s Creek love in, though I know I am late to the party. I also recently enjoyed The Wilds on Amazon Prime about a group of 17 year old girls who get stranded on a desert island.
WHAT IS NEXT IN YOUR NETFLIX QUEUE?
SOPHIE: The next series of Call My Agent, about a french talent agency – it is FABULOUS, funny, and so so french. It makes me want to eat croissants and drink wine and say ‘Bonjour’ to everyone I see.
Okay, Let’s Chat “This Time Next Year”
We love featuring debut novels in the Ashley Brooke Book Club! Can you tell us a little bit about your experience penning your first book?
Writing and publishing This Time Next Year has been a real rollercoaster. I wrote this book alone in my room in the small bit of time between my job and my two young children. Then when I learnt it was going to be published in America I was so thrilled, as that’s such a big deal for a British author. There were also disappointments along the way – like being published during a pandemic, so no book launches or book talks, no way to meet any readers in real life! All in, I count myself lucky that people have embraced the story and found it to be the escapist read they need right now.
Fate and luck are big themes in this book. How do you feel personally about fate versus choice? Do you think your life is more a product of your choices or destiny?
I believe in luck, but I also think so much of life is about attitude. Some of the happiest people I know definitely aren’t necessarily the most fortunate – so much is about perspective and I wish I was better at taking my own advice on that one! Positive outlooks can get you a long way in life.
We love to be in the know, so tell us, do you have another book in the works? Or other writing projects on the horizon?
Yes! I have a new book coming out in November. The title isn’t confirmed yet, but it’s about a girl who picks up the wrong suitcase at the airport and then falls in love with the contents – she convinces herself the owner of the bag must be her soulmate. It’s lots of fun and it’s all set on the island of Jersey where I live (in the Channel Islands between France and the UK). I hope anyone who enjoyed This Time Next Year will like this one!
WHAT PAGE ARE YOU ON?
Okay, now that you’ve read the interview… spill it! What page are you on?! Have you started, finished, or are you ordering today? I’m dying to know your thoughts. I fell in love with this romantic book immediately and I hope you did too!
And for those of you who are literally devouring books left and right, this is for you! Below are three of our favorite books that are similar to this month’s selection. So if you are enjoying this month’s book, you will most likely enjoy these three as well…
