A Much Needed Change.

Wow, well…. let’s get into it shall we?!

I’m not sure where to start, because I honestly should have started a long time ago, but I am so grateful for the grace and opportunity to grow. I want you to KNOW my heart here; that I want to do the right thing, always. Not even an ounce of me is perfect and I stumble constantly on my path of growing, but there is one thing I’m always striving for, and that is to be more like Jesus. And if I know I’m striving to be more like Him, then I’m on the right path. End of story.

Black Lives Matter

The horrific events over the past few weeks have catapulted me into a deep dive into the black community that is hurting so much. I say this with full conviction: I should have been doing this research earlier, period. But I believe you’ve got to start where you are and I was wildly unaware of the deep hurt of my neighbors, friends, and sisters. But now that I’m aware, I will never be the same. And that feels good.

Deep in my soul I know that God created me to share my stories, the things I’ve learned, and the heart work I’ve done. I always feel like I’m the best version of myself when I am sharing my learned experience with you. Whether that was through a broken relationship or a cancer journey. I’m extremely humbled by the things in my life that have moved me to change. I am always grateful for the hard work I’ve had to do to get to the other side. One of the things I value most in a person is wisdom and their willingness to get uncomfortable for the greater good of their heart.

So here I am, uncomfortable, afraid I will mess up, but willing to show up and fall, because the health of my heart matters. And so does yours.

And at the end of my life I want to know that I ran my race well.

Over the past few days Ryan and I have been spending every spare second listening, learning, reading, and gleaning. So I wanted to share with you a few resources we’ve found incredibly helpful, encouraging, and life giving. If you are looking for a place to start, hopefully these resources will be just as useful to you as they’ve been for us.

Sermons:

Whether you are a follower of Jesus or not, THIS conversation with Carl Lentz and Bishop T. D. Jakes will (hopefully) wreck you. Ryan and I both wept throught the entire thing. If you do one thing, make it this.

Books:

As you know, we are big into books! čśë We’ve created a place for a few books on Social Injustice that have come highly recommended over on our Book Club’s Bookshop.org page, hopefully it’s a resource for you.

Ryan and I have downloaded Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and Be the Bridge by Latasha Morrison on audio to start with.

Ways to Give:

If you feel inclined to give, do your research and find a place that your heart’s desire aligns with. There are SO many wonderful places to give. We chose Be a Bridge Builder, Black Girl Ventures, and Feed America (we give to the Southern branch in our town, Second Harvest Food Bank)

Song:

If you need to just meditate on something to clear your heart and mind, Hosanna by Hillsong is the song for you. Can’t recommend enough putting this on repeat and going for a walk.

My hope and prayer is that this post will be helpful and gives you the opportunity to not feel alone. Because we are all in this together. We are all one another has. Let’s link arms and be the hands and feet of Jesus.

As the days go on and my blog posts move back towards clothing, shoes, books, make up, DIYs, and home decor, know that my eyes have been opened… and actions speak louder than words.

THANK YOU thank you, Ashley, for sharing the video of Bishop T. D. Jakes and Hillsong East Coast. It was moving and inspiring and raw and convicting. We wept through it as well. Thank you for using your platform to speak up and push past the uncomfortable in the name of humanity and in the name of Jesus. Thank you for sharing your beautiful heart with us, in this post and in all you do.
