As you might have seen over on my Instagram stories on Friday night, Ryan is taking over the blog again today to share his favorite juices with you. Apparently he’s coming into his own as a food blogger or at least for right now a “beverage blogger” (see his other post here!) and it’s both hilarious and impressive! I hope you enjoy! xx
Slow Juicing + Favorite Recipes
If you’re on the fence about juicing, I’m here to win you over.
Ashley and I do a pretty good job at eating healthy foods. I give her most of the credit because it hasn’t always that way for me. Yet after 3+ years of marriage it’s a team effort. We’re constantly on the lookout for the next recipe or kitchen accessory that will make the health-pursuit easier. When it comes to juicing, Ashley has always been a fan. Wherever we go, she’s quick to find the nearest juice bar. I had never quite bought into the whole idea of juicing. Is it actually healthy to separate the fibers and pulp from the juice? Doesn’t that make it less nutritious? And why is juice so stinking expensive?
Then we were given a Hurom juicer last year around the holidays. It arrived as a surprise in the mail one day and I was thrilled, but still a little skeptical. Buying juice, fine. Making it? Not so sure! I reluctantly turned on the machine and dropped a few apple slices down the chute…And just like that, I was hooked! I think I pulverized every fruit and veggie we had in the house that day and even went to the grocery store to buy more. Since then, we’ve concocted all kinds of tasty recipes from detoxes and immune boosters to almond and cashew milk. Below I’m sharing three of our favorite juice recipes so far.
To Juice or Not to Juice
Just in case you’re still reluctant about the benefits of juicing, here’s what I’ve learned. Juicing pulls the majority of the nutrients away from the pulp and fiber. When it’s in liquid form it’s easier for our bodies to absorb fruits and veggies and enters the bloodstream faster. As for the cost, it’s all the more reason to juice at home!
For these recipes, I used our Hurom H-AA Slow Juicer, which I love (we’re giving one away, enter here!). It’s the best juicer on the market as far as I can tell, but if you don’t have one, that’s okay! You can fix any of these recipes with a solid blender (high powered ones like Vitamix work the best, but there are lots of great options out there). Obviously, it won’t just be juice, but you’ll still get the health benefits of all the ingredients.
3 Must-Try Juice Recipes
This is one of the first ones I tried, and it’s straight from the Hurom recipe book. I modified the recipe by adding ginger for some extra zip. Ginger has a ton of health benefits and it’s my “secret” ingredient that I add to almost every juice I make. The banana and pear give it a light, creamy taste while the lemon makes it mildly tart. It’s a true detox and a great way to start the day.
- 1 Pear
- 1/2 Lemon
- 1 Banana
- Ginger (optional, but I use it)
- Thin with filtered water
Everything Green Juice
Some days I just bomb when it comes to eating healthy and I start looking for ways to make up for it. This does the trick. The kale has iron, omega-3’s, fiber, calcium, vitamins K & A,. There’s not much it doesn’t do, it’s even a great detox food. The apple and orange provide vitamin C, the cucumber refreshes, and the ginger aids digestion. Pretty soon those bad choices are a distant memory. Either way, you can’t not feel good about life after drinking.
- Lots of Kale (you decide!)
- 1- 1 1/2 Apple
- 1/2 Orange
- 1/2 Cucumber
Simple and refreshing, this one is loaded with antioxidants. A great day starter as well and it’s probably good with alcohol, in case anyone wants to try it with vodka and let me know how it tasts!
- 1 Pear
- 3/4 cup Blueberries
- 1 cup Red Grapes
- 1/4 Cucumber (optional)
- Thin with filtered water to taste
So that’s a little bit about my journey into juicing. I’m counting on at least a few of you catching the juicing bug just like I did. Enjoy!
P.S. A little FIY…The juicer was gifted to us by the brand, so a big thanks to Hurom. This post, however, is not sponsored in any way and all opinions are my own!
