It’s a movie MARATHON!
You know how much we LOVE chick lit, so it should NOT come as a surprise that we also love chick flicks! We have a running list of favorite movies for each and every time of year, but we thought we would share our top 15 must-sees just in time for a serious movie marathon for Galentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day! Here’s your plan: pop some popcorn, get together with your best girlfriends (or your best guy!), and watch a bunch of our favorites! What could possibly be better?!
This movie, friends! If you have not seen it, you MUST add it to your list ASAP. Harry and Sally meet in college, fall out of touch, and reconnect 10 years later. It’s seriously the best.
You probably know by now that I have a bit of an obsession with this movie. If you have ever visited LA and walked along Rodeo Drive, you probably have felt like Vivian too! Edward (Richard Gere) hires Vivian (Julia Roberts) to escort him throughout a week of business meetings, but he helps to turn her live around too. One of my favorite quotes is when Vivian says, “Big mistake. Big. Huge.” I need to watch this one again with you!
Welcome to Paris! Do you even need to know more than that?! Kate decides not to fly to Paris with her fiancé only to end up having to make the trip! She sits next to Luc who might just be a bit of a criminal, and the rest of the film is set in one of our favorite cities. We absolutely LOVE Meg Ryan!
Kathleen (Meg Ryan) and Joe (Tom Hanks) meet in an online chatroom, but they don’t actually realize they already know each other. They are rival bookstore owners, and the movie follows their anonymous online conversations as they struggle to find their footing in their businesses. Another Meg Ryan favorite! Who else had an AOL email address and still remembers hearing, “You’ve got mail!”?
Cal and his wife separate after she reveals she cheated on him. Then Jacob becomes a bit of a mentor to Cal as he tries to meet new women. Crazy Stupid Love has all of the love triangles, plus Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, and MORE. Best. Cast. Ever.
We have two words for you: Betty. White. It is just SO GOOD in this movie! When she’s facing deportation to Canada, Margaret (Sandra Bullock) lies and says she’s engaged to Andrew (Ryan Reynolds). The pair spend a weekend with his family in Alaska for his grandma’s (our girl, Betty!) birthday, and the movie follows every moment from their weekend. It’s so fun!
If you love Charleston, Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, and a good cry, you need to see The Notebook. It’s based on the book by Nicolaus Sparks, and it follows Noah and Allie’s relationship, fallout, and reconnection post World War II. MUST WATCH.
When a movie opens with an early morning scene set outside of Tiffany’s in NYC, you know it’s going to be GOOD. Holly Golightly is a call girl in the city, and she’s also the ultimate socialite. She meets her new neighbor Paul because he can’t get inside their shared apartment building. This is called one of Audrey Hepburn’s best movies, so that’s even more reason why you need to see it. Be warned, you’re likely going to have serious style envy because Audrey Hepburn is just so classic.
Andie (Kate Hudson) works for Composure Magazine in NYC, and she is assigned to write an article about how to meet a guy, make him fall in love with you, and dump him…all in 10 days. The only problem is the guy, in this case, is ad agency exec Benjamin…who just so happens to be Matthew McConaughey in real life. OBSESSED with this one!
This is such a girly movie to watch with your besties whether you are in college or meeting at someone’s home! We always find ourselves quoting it for at least a few days afterward. “On Wednesdays, we wear pink!” We really do.
On Christmas Eve, a little boy calls into a radio talk show to ask that his wish for a new love for his dad (Tom Hanks) be granted. Of course, everyone falls in love with his sweet story, including Annie (Meg Ryan). She’s convinced Jonah’s dad is the one for her, but the pair have never met…and she’s just a little bit engaged.
This is another one to watch with your best girlfriends! Super popular Cher (Alicia Silverstone) plays matchmaker with her teachers, and then she decides to give Tai (Brittany Murphy) a makeover. A few things to know about this movie: 1. Beverly Hills (!!), 2. Cher’s closet is the best ever. OMG., 3. “As if.” Watch it for the first time or the 100th!
Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) meet in the middle of Saks Fifth Avenue during Christmastime when they both decide to purchase the same pair of gloves. The whole movie focuses on fate and destiny, and we realized we needed to go to the famed Serendipity 3 right after we saw it for the first time! P.S: Molly Shannon will make you laugh!
“Baby” and her family are vacationing in the Catskills when she meets Johnny, the dance instructor. The two share some incredible scenes together, including everyone’s favorite lift! Plus, “I’ve Had the Time of My Life” is the most famous single from this movie. If you’re a Gilmore Girls fan, make sure to look for Kelly Bishop (Emily in GG) in Dirty Dancing!
Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant are just so sweet in this movie. She plays an actress, he plays a bookshop owner, and the movie follows their accidental meeting and everything that happens after! Allow a little extra time for this movie; it’s a little long, but SO worth it! Plus, hello LONDON.
How many of these have you seen?! What do we need to add to our chick flick list! We need to know!
