Ashley Brooke Designs_Desk Obsessed_POPLIN & QUEEN

This week’s Desk Obsessed features the oh-so-fabulous ladies of Poplin & Queen! I’ve been a long time follower of both Lindsey’s and Shannon’s adorable blogs, they both have impeccable taste and I just love reading everything they post! So you can imagine my excitement when I found out that Lindsey and Shannon were teaming up to form Poplin & Queen, a boutique firm specializing in interior design and social media! And lucky for you we’ve got all the dish on both Lindsey’s & Shannon’s desk (it’s a two for one!) – from pens to snacks to music, here are all the fancy details! Hope you enjoy!

Lindsey Cheek’s Desk Obsessed
Is your desk more OCD organized or artistically organized chaos?
My intentions are for it to always be organized, but it leans towards the
artistic side of things. All of the containers (pencil cup, tape dispenser,
letter holder, jotter) are all lucite, so that encourages me to keep everything
neat. Before I start any new project, I tidy my desk up so that I have a fresh
start.

What’s your go to pen or pencil? (We know you have a favorite!)
I love the foray stylemark pen. I have it in a dozen different colors.

What are you listening to at your desk these days? If you prefer to work
in silence, is there a song or album that’s gets your juices flowing when
you’re stuck in a rut?

I’m a big Pandora fan and love the stations FUN, Old Crowe Medicine
Show, Dolly Parton, and Lupe Fiasco. I know it’s quite the mix, but it keeps
me going through the day.

Are there snacks or treats within arms reach of your desk? What are they?
I’m always drinking iced green tea with mint from my garden but have to
stop at 3pm or I’ll be up all night. My daughter, Tilley-Gray, is starting to
eat solid food, so we have a little afternoon picnic of watermelon and cantaloupe
or whatever fresh fruits I find at the farmer’s market that week. I’m also
a sucker for dark chocolate, so if I’m working at night (or on Fridays!), I’ll
have a piece of dark chocolate with a glass of wine.

What 3 Things on your desk keep you on track and inspired?

1.    A stack of home décor and fashion magazines. I love all of the
technology that is available, but when I’m in a rut, I can always count on
inspiration from a magazine to pull me through.

2.    Fresh flowers are a little luxury that makes my desk feel glam.

3.    My inspiration board, although not technically on my desk, is where I
keep magazine tears, thank-you notes from clients, fabric swatches, and
invitations to up coming events.

Shannon Darrough’s Desk Obsessed

Is your desk more OCD organized or artistically organized chaos?
In my mind it’s organized, but to the outside world it’s chaos. I like your
description— artistically organized chaos. Oh, yeah that’s my desk. I’m a very
visual person, so I like to see everything. I have a tendency to stack things on the
floor all around me, so by the end of the day, I have built fortress around my desk chair. It makes perfect sense to me though.

What’s your go to pen or pencil? (We know you have a favorite!)
I use a bright yellow ballpoint pen. I’m convinced it’s one of a kind because I can’t
find another one anywhere. Changing the ink is a little tricky, but it’s a treasure.

What are you listening to at your desk these days? If you prefer to work
in silence, is there a song or album that’s gets your juices flowing when
you’re stuck in a rut?

Oh, I’m so old school about music. I usually crank some Aretha Franklin, Patsy
Cline, or Etta James.

Are there snacks or treats within arms reach of your desk? What are they?
Every day at about 3:30 – 4:00 I eat an apple with peanut butter or cream cheese
and cinnamon. Swedish Fish find their way onto my desk from time to time,
too. Otherwise, I try really hard not to snack while I’m at my desk. I’m a big tea
drinker. I have a Jill Rosenwald chevron mug that I keep filled to the brim. If I
have to work late, wine is usually involved.

What 3 Things on your desk keep you on track and inspired?

1. My Russell + Harriet day planner. I would be lost without it.

2. I have a heart for textiles. I keep fabric swatches piled on my desk, hanging on
a mood board, or in a basket next to my desk. The colors and prints never fail to
pick me up.

3. Monogrammed stationery reminds me to take a moment to say thank you (for
everything).
